SMC is definitely mac friendly, so no worries! While it's true that we have a program with HP and that most students have PCs, our tech community is still able to help with a mac problem (not that there ever are any) and macs can still connect to the networks and everything else. I'd suggest getting microsoft office on your mac, but most people have that anyway. Hope this helps!

when do you find out if you got into one of the POW or WOW programs?
You should be findning out about POW and WOW very soon, because the deadline has just passed. The coordinators will figure out who can go for which weekend and you'll receive a confirmation in the mail. :]

Hi! I'm SO happy to hear that my blog is helping someone to choose to come to SMC :]. I do quite a bit around campus, and swim team takes up a great deal of my time. I'll be one of the women's captains for next year and I'm super excited about that.
When I'm not swimming, in class, or doing homework, Founder's takes up another good chunk of my time. I started out as a Blogger (which has now evolved into also being on facebook, twitter, knightspace, etc) and am also a full time tour guide, which means I give a tour at the same time every week. I've also been the Media and Communications coordinator for Founder's since this past Spring began, which means I oversee all of the bloggers and make sure we're answering everyone's questions.
Founder's is a great organization and there's more to be involved in than just tour guiding and blogging. We host students for day visits, participate in student pannels for academic days and open houses, and have phone-a-thons to call our accepted students and see what kind of questions they have.

i didn't realize that the roommate form was first come first serve so i mailed it semi late... now i'm nervous i'm going to get whomever is left over.. :/
Don't worry! Only pre-orientation trips such as POW and WOW are first come first serve. The rooming forms won't be sorted through until they all come in. Once that's done, you'll get matched up as best as we can with someone who answered the questions similarly to you. SMC does a really good job matching people up with roommates. I loved my roommate freshman year and so did almost all of my friends.
Also, as an extra bit, if you do end up having trouble with your roommate, never fear! There is a 2 week housing freeze, and then you are able to change rooms if you really need to. Your RA will be able to help you through any trouble you might have, but chances are, your experience will be great!

Where is your favorite place on campus?
Alliot Hall is definitely my favorite place. It's got the bookstore, club offices, and of course the dining hall. Alliot is the best place to people watch and run your little errands. AND I love to eat, so sitting inside the dining hall with my friends and chatting, eating, and creeping on everyone. However, The Dailey Room in the library comes in a close second since it it full of photos from study abroad students and I have 2 photos up there now :]

It's been one week
Hey all,
So it's been a full week since I started my new job here on campus in the Admissions department. Some days (and hours) are definitely more exciting than others, but I'm really enjoying what I'm doing and am learning a lot.
Last week I gave a few tour that really picked up my spirits and made me feel like I made a difference. On one of them, the parents of a member of the incoming class of 2014 came in to get a tour of campus, which they had never seen. The father is a soldier in Iraq so I felt so honored to be able to give him a tour of the campus where his son will be. They told me that the day before, they had driven around campus on the road, and had gotten nervous that it wasn't the right place for their son. The weather was gloomy and since it's summer there's nobody on campus. However, this day was gorgeous and I was able to take them around and show them all of the great part of campus and they left feeling a lot better about SMC, so that was great!
The rest of the week was a lot of tours, book award work, and learning how to work the data entry system. Like I said, some exciting and some not, but I'm really looking forward to the rest of the summer.
This weekend was very chill. I saw some friends, went downtown on Saturday, and yesterday I went on a hike. Some friends and I hiked to the summit of Mount Abraham, which is part of the Long Trail and the 5th highest peak in Vermont. I guess I'm just preparing for my ultimate goal of hiking the highest peak, Mount Mansfield. We'll see about that, since I struggled a bit yesterday. But I do need to get back into shape.
In other news, I've finally linked my formspring account to the blog and to my twitter, so everyone can see my answers to the questions I get. So if you have a question, type it in on the box to the right and I'll get right to it!

Is the dinning hall open every day of the week, Including weekends?
YES! The dining hall is open on weekdays from 7:30 AM until 8PM and is open select hours on weekends for breakfast, BRUNCH (everyone's favorite) and dinner.
We also have 2 cafes on campus open during the day for snacks and sandwiches. The Knight Stand cafe also opens with late night food from 8pm until midnight.
