Family Vacation

Hey there everyone

So I’m writing this after my first full day of vacation in St. Maarten. I’m currently sitting out on the balcony enjoying the warm air and the sounds of the beach right below me. I won’t be able to post his until I get back in a few days, but I figure better late than never.

It’s absolutely gorgeous here, and I’m not just saying that because my last 30 days in New Jersey have been 70-85% rain, though they have. We visited a beach we’ve been to before on a cruise today and it was really nice (and I managed to only get a little pink, as opposed to my sister who is a little too burnt for comfort). Got to re-apply.

I think the only downsides of vacationing are the lack of friends/people we know (normally we make friends but it’s off season down here since it’s summer, so the island is pretty quiet) and the lack of cell phone service. We’re not in the country so we don’t have regular service, and it’s on quiet nights like this where I’d love to be able to call some people and chat.

Still, the peace is nice. If only I weren’t being plagued by e-mails about the Hasbrouck Heights Swim Team, but alas, such is the job of a new coach. I’m staying optimistic about the team, though the practices are taking a lot out of me already. We separate the kids by age group, but within that there’s so many skill levels that it’s hard to manage. It’ll come together eventually, we hope. Work is starting full time next week too, so that’ll be exhausting but, believe it or not, I’m definitely ready to start working every day. I’m just so bored otherwise. Once I go to the gym in the morning, I feel like the rest of my day has no purpose.

Mid-July holds the excitement of another packet from API about Italy. I’m not sure what’s in it, and I don’t think I find out about housing or anything until early August, but I don’t really know. Either way I’m looking forward to more stuff to get excited about.

I’ve finally got a Visa appointment, same day as the first meet (what a nice combination of my two topics) so I’ll be able to get that done and then start on something else on my study abroad list (which includes a phone, some type of money card, another card, shopping, and all kinds of things I’m sure will come up).

In other news (I’m almost done, promise) POW is in a few weeks. I’m working on POW 1, the weekend of July 10-12. I’m really looking forward to getting to meet some of the incoming class of 2013, talking and playing with them, and getting to see a bunch of my own friends too. I’ll be staying in Vermont for a few extra days afterwards to visit the boyfriend and some others, so that should be a nice mini-vacation (I’ve already taken one to Massachusetts to see my friends there). I’m sure there will be a nice long post about POW when I return from that, so remember to check back and keep checking back. And don’t forget I’m on facebook (new url www.facebook.com/camoresano), twitter (ChristineSMC), knightspace (for the class of 2013), and email at camoresano@smcvt.edu if anyone needs anything.

Thanks for stopping in!
-Christine
